| Frederick Daniel Hardy trained as a musician, but gave up music to make a career in art. With his brother George and Thomas Webster, they formed the nucleus of the Cranbrook Colony. If his inspiration was Dutch genre painting, the interpretation is essentially English. His romantic view of peasant life was popular in his own time and, like all fairy tales, has never gone out of fashion. |
