ORGANISATION

The Club was founded in 1953 with the object of promoting interest in, and providing facilities for, Scottish Country Dancing.

It is affiliated to the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society. (R.S.C.D.S.)

We currently have well over 100 members and anyone may join.   It is not necessary to be of Scottish descent, or to be a member of the R.S.C.D.S.  Members of the Club under 16 years old are classed as Junior Members.

LOCATION AND TIMES

The club meets on Mondays in the English Martyrs' Church Hall, Dalton Terrace, York (by kind permission of the Parish Priest) or as otherwise notified.

Dancing is from 7.30 p.m. to 10 p.m. to recorded music.  Separate step/formation practise is available for beginners and any others who would like to participate from 7.30 p.m. to 8.00 p.m.

There are normally about 6 to 8 sets (48 to 64 dancers) on the floor for each dance.

A short break is taken for light refreshments half way through the evening.

STANDARDS OF DANCING

The Club caters for all standards from "Beginners" to "Very Advanced".

It prides itself on being a friendly Club remembering that the whole object of the evening is to have fun and help one another.

All dances are "walked through".

ADDITIONAL SUPPORT CLASSES

The Club uses the Dunnington Sports & Leisure Centre on the fourth Wednesday of each month, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., for additional evening practises. This allows our experienced members to try out new or more complex dances, or to rehearse for Demonstrations. Also, for the benefit of other members desiring extra practise and beginners who wish to try Scottish dancing but have not yet joined the Club, there are light hearted sessions on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the months September to March, from 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m., at the same venue.

For more information contact Mrs. Lesley Digby (Tel: 01904 489662)

OTHER CLASSES

Other regular classes in York and surrounding areas are organised by the RSCDS York & North Humberside Branch of the R.S.C.D.S

SOCIAL DANCING IN YORKSHIRE

Social Scottish Country Dancing is available somewhere in Yorkshire almost every weekend throughout the year, usually with a choice of several sites. Frequently one of the sites will have dancing to a nationally recognised live band.  The Yorks SCD Diary containing this information can be obtained from Phill Jones (tel. 0870 803 4963); the information is also available from RSCDS Sheffield Branch who host the online Yorks SCD Diary at http://extra.shu.ac.uk/rscds/
