The Wood Family of the River Ouse

For 100 years the Wood family ran a wharfage business from Queen's Staith on the river Ouse in York. The main promoter of the business was Mary Wood, who ran the business alone from 1848-1862 following the death of her husband. It was so successful that even the coming of the railways did not affect the company's business. Join John Shaw, Chairman of the Yorkshire Architectural and York Archaeological Society, as he uncovers some of the stories behind this amazing enterprise.
