Reading Old Handwriting

Join Explore's Archivist (Access and Engagement), Laura Yeoman, for this introductory palaeography course. Aimed at complete beginners, this day course will use documents from the archives to explore handwriting styles from the 16th to the 18th centuries. We'll look at Secretary and Italic hands, common issues with transcribing documents and a variety of different types of archival sources. The session will allow for plenty of opportunities for hands-on practice and includes take-home materials.
