Loving Big Brother

Nineteen Eighty-Four is a strange book. Full of horror and terror, it contains prophetic dreams and a central character who thinks of himself as a ‘monster’, a ‘ghost’ and ‘already dead’. Why is it so full of ambivalent and perverse desires?  Is it as much a gothic as a political novel?
